Faaaaaaaall

Maybe it isn't yet, but today has the clouds and the music to prove otherwise.

I've been working away on a little project that I wanted to share a bit with you, but mostly it has to remain a secret until it's finished and in its owners hands.

Let me essplain. No, too long. Let me paraphrase:

I inherited a collection of 5 nesting dolls AKA Russian dolls AKA matryoshkas from my Grandmother when she passed away. They have been sitting on my window sill STARING at me (and then on the floor, lost for a little while) until one night I got it in my mind that I needed to paint them.

"Needed" being the operative word here. To give you an idea of how big the smallest doll is, she is 3/4". Or just look here:

After some sanding (a lot of sanding) and some jesso-ing I had 5 shapely little canvases to work with.

I can only show you one photo of the progress after this because I promised their Future Owner not to spoil the surprise for him of opening each doll and seeing what is inside. All I can tell you is that this girl:

will house 4 monsters, each nestled inside the next. These little delights will even have their own custom-painted box and I have named them Melinda and the Monsters.

I can't wait to show you more. Waiting is the damnedest part.

I have ALWAYS WANTED TO DO EXACTLY THAT...although I never thought to hide monsters within. What a visual metaphor!!!

And you are doing it. So very great - lovved even your gesso painted version - transitions are just as interesting.

Dying to get back to art too. maybe this will push me off the ledge I squat on.
