I am a Planner

Not always, but the other day I sat down for a good HOUR and planned out my days (68 days to be exact). I have at least five major projects balanced on a stick and I am not willing to not finish them all before Christmas. This is me telling you if you don't hear from me until the new year, now you know why.

Today I started (yes STARTED) painting the piece inspired the words submitted for my Painting Contest (I am so clever with naming things). I want to get this one done particularly soon because I want it to be ready for selling in December. WHY? Need I remind you that 1/3 of what the painting sells for is going to SOS Children's Villages Canada? I'm still giddy about this project.

So today I was painting away and then realized it was 2pm and I hadn't had lunch yet. I got up to make lunch and next thing I know, I'm back on my stool with a giant bag of chips swinging from my hand and a paint brush in the other one.

I also wanted to mention that I am using Holbein DUO paints (no, they are not paying me to say that). They were referred to me by then incredible Camilla d'Errico (she is not paying me to say that either). Basically the paints are oil paints but water soluble. They don't dry NEARLY as fast as acrylics but dry MUCH faster than oils. Life has taken on a whole new meaning.

67 days to go.

Hooooray.

I'm using those paints too now! It's so satisfying to have oils dry faster now. When I got them from the store they were all on close-out, so I hope they aren't going to stop selling them, just as I have found them!

I can't imagine planning out my next 68 days. I can't even manage to plan out a week most of the time. I try, but it doesn't usually work out very well.

Nice painting! How big is that and on what surface?

I also just started using that after chatting with her (d'Errico) at Dragon Con. Do you use any medium? I read that you can use regular oil medium too...

(Thank you for the nice comment on my blog!)

I really like contrast between the background and the girl. She is a bright star in an otherwise kind of somber setting.

My 5yo daughter was a little unsure what to think. She said she didn't like the short hair, but then all of her friends have chin length or longer, so it's interesting that she's not comfortable with the unfamiliar style. I had never thought much about this before, but even in children's books it does seem most girls have longer hair. Just thought you'd enjoy a child's perspective.
